1. Introduction

Expat Holland aims to collect as little personal data as reasonably possible. This policy explains what information is processed when you use the site, how analytics work, and how affiliate tracking is handled.

2. Analytics and Usage Data

We use Umami for privacy-focused website analytics. Umami runs without analytics cookies and is used to understand aggregate website usage such as page views, referral sources and interactions with the site.

We also use Umami custom events to measure affiliate-link activity. For an affiliate click, we may record the provider name, internal link identifier, page path, outbound path and whether Awin tracking was allowed, declined or not yet chosen at the time of the click. We do not include your name, email address, BSN, home address or financial details in these analytics events.

3. Affiliate Links

Expat Holland uses affiliate links. If you follow a partner link and later make a purchase or complete another qualifying action, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on relevant commercial pages.

For Awin partner links, we store your tracking preference and pass that preference to Awin. If you allow tracking, Awin may use affiliate tracking cookies for attribution. If you decline, we pass Awin a rejection signal where supported, and Awin documents that it will not set its tracking cookie or pass its click identifier onward for that journey. For Awin short links where a rejection signal cannot be relied on, we use a direct non-tracking destination instead.

Other affiliate networks or merchants may use attribution technologies after you follow a partner link, subject to their own privacy and cookie policies and applicable law. We do not receive the personal information you enter on a provider's website.

4. Preference Storage

We use local storage and a small first-party preference cookie named expat_cookie_consent to remember whether you allowed or declined Awin affiliate tracking. The cookie is used only to apply your choice to later affiliate redirects and is stored for up to one year unless you clear or change it.

5. Website Feedback

We may collect feedback submitted through the site to improve our content. If you voluntarily include personal information in a free-text feedback field, it is used only for reviewing that feedback and should not be used to submit sensitive information.

6. Data Sharing and Security

We do not sell personal data. Analytics and affiliate attribution are handled by the relevant service providers described above. We take reasonable measures to limit the data sent by our own site to what is needed for analytics, preferences and affiliate attribution.

7. Your Rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may have rights including access, correction and deletion of personal data. Because our Umami analytics are not built around named user accounts or personal identifiers, we may not be able to link anonymous analytics records to a particular person.
