Do you need a Dutch number?
A Dutch number can be convenient for local contact, but it is not a universal requirement for Dutch services. DigiD accepts foreign phone numbers for SMS verification. Check each service’s requirements before switching.
Questions before you order
Do I need a BSN for a SIM-only plan?
We have not verified a single BSN requirement that applies to every provider here. Check the provider’s identification and address requirements. SIM-only should not be confused with a contract that finances a new phone.
Can I order without a Dutch bank account?
Odido describes a conditional route for foreign accounts; Simyo asks you to contact customer service. Lycamobile’s online SIM-only checkout displays iDEAL. Its terms also permit credit cards, but card-only online signup has not been confirmed. Check with the provider if you cannot use iDEAL.
Does an eSIM include a phone number and SMS?
eSIM describes the SIM format, not the services included. Check the actual plan. Odido’s SimWallet, for example, is data-only, so it is not a replacement for an ordinary calls-and-texts plan.
What if I leave the Netherlands early?
Check the minimum term and notice period. Moving abroad does not necessarily end a fixed contract without further charges. If your stay is uncertain, compare monthly rolling or prepaid options first.
